Lophidiaster mirabilis was named by Valette (1915). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Astropecten mirabilis by Rasmussen (1950); it was recombined as Cuneaster mirabilis by Hess (1955).

H. Hess 1955Inferomarginal plates of the disc cuneate, width 10 mm, length 2 mm adradially and 1 mm abradially. Lateral faces with deep fascioles, the faces for articulation representing 1/3 of the surface. External face with ornament of dense small granules of constant size throughout.
