Taxonomy
Alexenia occidentalis was named by Cooper (1957). Its type specimen is USNM 125350 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UO 638, Suplee Anticline, which is in a Kungurian marine limestone in the Coyote Butte Formation of Oregon.
