Ferganopterus was named by Sharov (1968). It is the type genus of Ferganopterinae.
It was assigned to Triassomantidae by Sharov (1968); to Triassomanteidae by Carpenter (1992); and to Ferganopterinae by Gorochov (1989), Gorochov (1995) and Gorochov (2005).
