Micragnostus was named by Howell (1935) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Dres-u O Llvi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 16,721,1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Agnostus calvus.

It was reranked as Geragnostus (Micragnostus) by Lu and Lin (1980).

It was assigned to Geragnostus by Lu and Lin (1980); to Agnostidae by Whittington et al. (1997) and Bao and Jago (2000); and to Agnostida by Sepkoski (2002).
