Bintoniella was named by Handlirsch (1939). Its type is Bintoniella brodiei. It is the type genus of Bintoniellidae, Bintoniellinae.
It was assigned to Bintoniellidae by Handlirsch (1939), Sharov (1968) and Carpenter (1992); and to Bintoniellinae by Gorochov (1987) and Gorochov (1995).
