Oidalagnostus was named by Westergard (1946) [Sepkoski's age data: ]. It is not extant. Its type is Oidalagnostus trispinifer. It is the type genus of Oidalagnostinae.
It was assigned to Diplagnostidae by Whittington et al. (1997); to Agnostida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Oidalagnostinae by Jago et al. (2004).
