Domatoceras militarium was named by Hyatt (1893). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Old Military Crossing, Whiskey Creek, Wichita River, which is in an Artinskian coastal siliciclastic in the Clyde Formation of Texas.
It was recombined as Stearoceras militarium by Miller and Youngquist (1949).
