Psychotipa depicta was named by Shcherbakov (1995). Its type specimen is PIN 2555/661, a wing (left wing), and it is an impression. Its type locality is Madygen, PIN collection 2555, Dzhailoucho area, which is in a Ladinian lacustrine - small siliciclastic in the Madygen Formation of Kyrgyzstan.
