Taxonomy
Sphaeragnostus was named by Cooper and Kindle (1936). Its type is Agnostus similaris.

It was assigned to Sphaeragnostidae by Ahlberg (1989) and Whittington et al. (1997); and to Agnostida by Sepkoski (2002).
