Taxonomy
Mantispa relicta was named by Cockerell (1921). Its type specimen is NHML In.24326, a forewing, and it is a compression fossil.

It was recombined as Promantispa relicta by Jarzembowski (1980); it was recombined as Vectispa relicta by Lambkin (1986), Engel and Grimaldi (2007), Wedmann and Makarkin (2007) and Jepson (2015).
