Minusinella was named by Repina (1960) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm(Atda)]. Its type is Minusinella lochmanae. It is the type genus of Minusinellidae.
It was assigned to Metadoxididae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Redlichiida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Minusinellidae by Geyer (2019).
