Schizodus rossicus was named by de Verneuil (1845). It is a mold. Its type locality is Itschalki, Piana River, which is in a Roadian shallow subtidal limestone in the Russian Federation.
It was synonymized subjectively with Schizodus truncatus by Geinitz (1861).
