Acontheus was named by Angelin (1852) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm uMid Sepkoski's reference number: 16]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Corynexochida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Corynexochidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
