Tropidoceras masseanum
Taxonomy
Ammonites masseanus was named by d'Orbigny (1844). Its type specimen is MNHN.F.R01397 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Les Cottards, nr Saint George de Poisieux, which is in a Pliensbachian marine horizon in France.
It was recombined as Harpoceras masseanus by Gemmellaro (1884); it was recombined as Tropidoceras masseanum by Bremer (1965), Meister (1986), Smith and Tipper (1996) and Meister and Friebe (2003).
