It was assigned to Atoposaurides by Carroll (1988) and Buscalioni and Sanz (1990); to Mesoeucrocodylia by Pol and Norell (2004); to Neosuchia by Turner (2006), Zaher et al. (2006), Fiorelli and Calvo (2008), Nascimento and Zaher (2011) and Bronzati et al. (2012); to Atoposauridae by Lortet (1892), Wellnhofer (1971), Buscalioni and Sanz (1988), Karl et al. (2006), Martin et al. (2010) and Tennant and Mannion (2014); and to Atoposauridae by Tennant et al. (2016).
