Taxonomy
Heolus providentiae was named by Handlirsch (1906). Its type specimen is USNM 38700, a wing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is East Providence, which is in a Westphalian C/Westphalian D terrestrial siliciclastic in Rhode Island.
