Palaiotaptus mazonus
Taxonomy
Palaiotaptus mazonus was named by Handlirsch (1906). Its type specimen is USNM 38815, a wing (fragment of tip), and it is an impression. Its type locality is Mazon Creek, USNM Lacoe Collection, which is in a Westphalian D interdistributary bay mudstone in the Carbondale Formation of Illinois. It is the type species of Palaiotaptus.
