Taxonomy
Strephocladus was named by Scudder (1885). Its type is Petroblattina subtilis. It is the type genus of Strephocladidae.
It was assigned to Palaeodictyoptera by Scudder (1885); to Protoblattoidea by Handlirsch (1906), Handlirsch (1919), Handlirsch (1922) and Guthörl (1934); to Oedischiidae by Guthörl (1936); to Strephocladidae by Carpenter (1992); to Ischnoneuridae by Rasnitsyn and Aristov (2013); and to Anthracoptilidae by Rasnitsyn and Aristov (2004), Prokop et al. (2015), Nel et al. (2015) and Guan et al. (2016).
