Taxonomy
Phillipsinella was named by Novak (1885). Its type is Phacops parabola.

It was assigned to Phillipsinellidae by Owen and Bruton (1980); to Styginidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Corynexochida by Sepkoski (2002).
