Brutonia was named by Thomas and Holloway (1988) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm u Sepkoski's reference number: ZR89]. It is not extant. Its type is Acidaspides borealis.

It was assigned to Lichakephalidae by Thomas and Holloway (1988); and to Lichida by Sepkoski (2002).
