Taxonomy
Protofagacea allonensis was named by Herendeen et al. (1995). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type locality is Allon, which is in a Santonian fine channel fill claystone/sandstone in the Gailard Formation of Georgia. It is the type species of Protofagacea.
