Taxonomy
Longisquama was named by Sharov (1970). Its type is Longisquama insignis. It is the type genus of Longisquamidae. It was considered monophyletic by Unwin et al. (2000).
It was assigned to Longisquamidae by Sharov (1970) and Unwin et al. (2000); and to Avicephala by Senter (2004).
