Lichas (Echinolichas) was named by Gürich (1901) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi-l D Eife Sepkoski's reference number: 421,774]. It is not extant. Its type is Lichas eriopis.

It was reranked as Echinolichas by Thomas and Holloway (1988), Sepkoski (2002), Jell and Adrain (2003) and Pollitt et al. (2005).

It was assigned to Lichas by Gürich (1901); to Echinolichinae by Thomas and Holloway (1988); to Lichida by Sepkoski (2002); to Lichidae by Jell and Adrain (2003); and to Echinolichini by Pollitt et al. (2005).
