Taxonomy
Scytinoptera distorta was named by Riek (1976). Its type specimen is C-Dt II 782ab, a forewing (missing apex), and it is an impression. Its type locality is Bird's River (C-Dt II), which is in a Carnian lacustrine - small shale in the Molteno Formation of South Africa.
