Taxonomy
Ascopora birkenmajeri was named by Nakrem et al. (2009). Its type specimen is PMO 170.913 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Gipsvika, which is in a Sakmarian marine limestone in the Wordiekammen Formation of Svalbard and Jan Mayen.
