Araeonema problematicum was named by Wang (1980) [Wang in Wang & Xi 1980]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pujia XG-8, Zhijin County, which is in a Wuchiapingian marine siliciclastic in the Loping Formation of China.
