Taxonomy
Gymnotoceras mimetus was named by Monnet and Bucher (2005). Its type specimen is PIMUZ 25267 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Fossil Hill FHB 6, Humboldt Range, which is in an Illyrian marine horizon in Nevada.
