Damesella was named by Walcott (1905) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm mMid Cm mMid-u Sepkoski's reference number: 16,464]. It is not extant. Its type is Damesella blackwelderi.

It was assigned to Damesellidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Odontopleurida by Sepkoski (2002).
