Camaraspis was named by Ulrich and Resser (1924). Its type is Camaraspis convexa.

It was assigned to Petrocephaliidae by Harrington et al. (1959); to Pterocephalidae by Westrop (1992); to Asaphida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pterocephaliidae by Jell and Adrain (2003).
