Taxonomy
Myelastrum was named by Haeckel (1887) [Sepkoski's age data: K R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Myelastridae.

It was assigned to Myelastridae by De Wever et al. (2001); and to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
