Cyclopyge was named by Hawle and Corda (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-l O Ashg-u Sepkoski's reference number: 80].

It was assigned to Cyclopygidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Asaphida by Sepkoski (2002).
