Syndesmophora was named by Martynov (1937).

It was synonymized subjectively with Megakhosara by Carpenter (1992), Storozhenko (1993) and Storozhenko (1998); it was misspelled as Syndesmorpha by Aristov (2004) and Storozhenko and Aristov (2014); it was corrected as Syndesmorpha by Aristov (2015).

It was assigned to Insecta by Martynov (1937); and to Megakhosaridae by Aristov (2004), Storozhenko and Aristov (2014) and Aristov (2015).
