Taxonomy
Watsonulus was named by Brough (1939) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr l]. Its type is Watsonia eugnathoides.

It was assigned to Amiiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Parasemionotidae by Lehman et al. (1959), Gardiner (1960), Beltan (1968), Romano et al. (2016) and Taverne (2020).
