Asaphus eichwaldi was named by Fischer (1825). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kachkabache Mountain, near Artinsk, which is in an Artinskian marine sandstone in the Russian Federation.
It was recombined as Phillipsia eichwaldi by de Verneuil (1845).
