Taxonomy
Elcana argentina was named by Cockerell (1926). It is an impression. Its type locality is Minas de Petroleo (Kurtz coll), which is in a Carnian lacustrine delta plain shale/claystone in the Potrerillos Formation of Argentina.

It was recombined as Locustopsis argentina by Zeuner (1942); it was recombined as Gondwanoperlidium argentina by Clapham (2023).
