Ogmasaphus was named by Jaanusson (1953). Its type is Asaphus praetextus.
It was assigned to Asaphinae by Henningsmoen (1960); to Asaphidae by Zhou et al. (1998) and Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Asaphida by Sepkoski (2002).
