Diaphorostoma daytonense was named by Foerste (1923) [Replacement for Platyostoma Niagarense Foerste 1887 p. 97 pl. 13 f. 3a, f. 22a-b]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Platyostoma daytonense by Wagner (2017).
