Archimulacris acadicus was named by Scudder (1868). It is an impression. Its type locality is East River of Pictou, which is in a Westphalian C/Westphalian D terrestrial shale in the Middle Coal Formation of Canada.

It was corrected as Archimulacris acadica by Scudder (1868); it was recombined as Archimylacris acadicum by Scudder (1879); it was recombined as Archimylacris acadica by Scudder (1895), Handlirsch (1906), Handlirsch (1906), Handlirsch (1920), Handlirsch (1922), Copeland (1957) and Schneider (1983).
