Saldonia was named by Popov (1973). Its type is Saldonia rasnitsyni. It is the type genus of Saldoniinae.
It was assigned to Saldoniinae by Popov (1973) and Schuh et al. (1987); and to Archegocimicidae by Popov (1988), Ryzhkova (2011), Zhang et al. (2013) and Ryzhkova and Kopylov (2020).
