Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
A. A. Kurkin 2000Medium-sized dicynodonts, skull 15-20 cm long. Snout with medial crest extending from anterior edge of premaxilla to level with center of orbit. Upper jaw with caniniform projections directed ventrally or anteroventrally; lateral surface of maxilla with well developed expansions corresponding to these projections. Partial region of approximately same width as interorbital region. Postorbitals adjoining each other at midline and forming short crest, otherwise, separated from each other by groove where parietals exposed. Postfrontals small and wedging in between frontals and postorbitals. Palatines medium-sized, lacking contact with premaxilla, and separated from latter by narrow flanges of maxillae. Ectopterigoid large and separating maxilla from pterygoid. Bones of palate located in same plane as pterygoids. Anterior edge of choanae formed by premaxilla. Anterior (maxillary) and posterior (quadrate) remi of pterygoids from regular X-shaped pattern. Anterior rami of pterygoids lyre-shaped. Occiput broad, low, and substantially inclined anteriorly. Articular surfaces of quadrates located on level with occiput plane. Basioccipital lacking intertubercular crest. Dentary long, symphysis relatively high, dentary shelf well developed. Lower teeth located close to internal edge of jaw; crowns high, round in cross section, and bearing serration on anterior and posterior edges.
