Taxonomy
Pleurotomaria thyrrena was named by Gemmellaro (1889). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Rocca di San Benedetto, calcare compatto, Sosio, which is in a Wordian carbonate limestone in Italy.

It was recombined as Phymatopleura thyrrena by Wagner (2023).
