Alataurus was named by Repina (1964) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Boto Sepkoski's reference number: 471]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Palaeolenidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002).
