Anechocephalus was named by Palmer (1960) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Fran-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1017]. It is not extant. Its type is Anechocephalus trigranulatus.
It was assigned to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pterocephaliidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
