Taxonomy
Neophricadothyris bullata was named by Cooper and Grant (1976). Its type specimen is USNM 152468g2, a shell (Articulated shell), and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Bullarina bullata by Jin and Sun (1981); it was recombined as Permophricodothyris bullata by Sun (1991).
