Morganucodon watsoni was named by Kuehne (1949). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Duchy Quarry (St. Bride's Island), which is in a Hettangian/Sinemurian fissure fill limestone/marl in the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Eozostrodon watsoni by Jenkins and Crompton (1979).
