Braintreella was named by Wheeler (1942) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm mMid-u Sepkoski's reference number: 80]. Its type is Ptychoparia rogersi.

It was assigned to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002); to Solenopleuridae by Jell and Adrain (2003); and to Ptychopariidae by Landing et al. (2008).
