Plesiosaurus rostratus
Taxonomy
Plesiosaurus rostratus was named by Owen (1865). Its type specimen is BMNH 38525, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Charmouth, E.C.H. Day collection, which is in a Sinemurian marine horizon in the Charmouth Mudstone Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Rhomaleosaurus rostratus by Persson (1963); it was recombined as Archaeonectrus rostratus by Storrs (1997).
