Clelandia was named by Cossman (1902) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Trep-l O Trem-l Sepkoski's reference number: 697 replacement name for Harrisia ]. Its type is Harrisia parabola.

It was assigned to Kingstoniidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002).
