Cedaria was named by Walcott (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm uMid-u Cm Dres-l Sepkoski's reference number: 80,379]. Its type is Cedaria prolifica.

It was assigned to Cedariidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002).
