Chariocephalus was named by Hall (1863) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Fran-u Sepkoski's reference number: 379,697]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Elviniidae by Jell and Adrain (2003).
